The app
What the app does and this site cannot
This site explains how poker is played. That is half of it, and it is the easy half. The other half is knowing what to do when it is your turn, you have made nothing, and you have to decide on the little you know. That part is not read: it is decided many times over, with something telling you why.
Pokeo is a poker course for your phone where every screen asks you for a decision. There are no chips to buy, no money and no casino.
The difference, without decoration
Here
You read a hand that has already been played. You understand why the winner won, and when you close the page you know what happened.
There
The hand is halfway through and it is your turn. You choose, and what happens next depends on what you chose. When you close the app you know what you would do.
The four product decisions that make it different
-
1
It tells you why, not just whether you were right
Green ticks and red crosses teach nothing: they tell you that you failed, not what you were looking at wrongly. Every answer in Pokeo has its own explanation, including the correct one. If you were right for the wrong reason, you will find out.
-
2
It starts from what you can see, not from theory
The first lesson does not explain probability: it explains what a deck is and which card beats which. The floor is an adult who has never played cards in their life, and no term appears without being explained on the same screen it appears on.
-
3
Chips cannot be bought, and that changes the whole course
An app that sells you chips needs you to spend them. Because nothing is sold here, the course can teach what actually needs teaching: when to fold, when not to call and when to leave the table.
-
4
Five minutes, and genuinely five
Lessons are short because a decision is learned by repeating it, not by reading a chapter. Ten paths, fifty five lessons, and in each one you decide several times yourself.
What is inside
- The course
- Ten paths that run from the deck itself to reading the other player. You start not knowing what the cards are called and finish knowing why you did what you did on every hand.
- The situations
- A hundred and sixty hands stopped halfway, with the chips counted and the cards out. You pick one of three, and each option comes with its verdict and its reason.
- The table
- Whole hands against opponents who play in different ways: one who almost never bluffs, one who bluffs often. Nothing is corrected while you play here. It is watched.
What it is not
- It is not a casino or a bookmaker. There is no real money play, chips cannot be bought, and there are no prizes of any value.
- It does not promise you will make money, because nobody can promise that. What it promises is that you will understand every hand you play.
- It carries nobody's advertising, it is not sponsored, and it links to no card room.
Who makes it
One person: writes the lessons, builds the app and maintains this site. Write to Pokeo and he is the one who answers.
