Practice table
Practice poker against the computer
Pokeo is a poker simulator you practice with in your browser: you sit across from a computer opponent with a style of its own, play whole hands of Texas Hold'em and, when the session ends, it tells you which decision you keep repeating and what it's costing you. The chips are worth nothing and can't be bought.
You don't need an account to practice. If you've never played, start with the first lesson instead: in six minutes you'll be reading the cards.
What this table has
A real opponent, help on demand and a review at the end
-
Opponents with a style of their own
Walter plays few hands and almost never bluffs; Roxie puts on pressure the moment she sees you hesitate. Later, in the full game, the house regulars sit down, each with their own habits.
-
Help only when you ask
Help names the streets and whose turn it is, My hand marks what you're holding, and the Cheat sheet keeps the hand rankings one tap away. Switch them off when you don't need them anymore.
-
A review when you're done
Nobody corrects you while you play. At the end, Pokeo goes over your hands and tells you which habit is costing you chips, and which lesson works on it.
The house regulars
Each one plays their own way, and the course teaches you to read them. You start one on one; later, in the full game, the others sit down.
One on one
Whole hands against a single opponent, from the blinds to the pot.
-
Walter, the one-on-one regular
Tight and passive: when his chips go in, he almost always has it, and sometimes he has it without putting them in.
Tight · Passive
-
Roxie, the one-on-one regular
She enters almost every hand and bets with far more than she holds.
Loose · Aggressive
The full game
You and two or three regulars, whole hands. The table changes: every fifteen hands someone gets up and someone new sits down.
-
Victor
the Surgeon
Plays very few hands, but squeezes when he does. If he raises you, think twice.
-
Dottie
the Curious
Calls to see almost anything and almost never raises. Charge her when you have a hand.
-
Frankie
the Weathervane
One day he won't part with a chip, the next he plays everything. Don't trust what he did last hand.
-
Gale
the Squall
She bets with anything and never stops. Often she has nothing; the hard part is spotting when she does.
-
Desmond
the Snare
He rarely bets first. But if you bet and he has something, he raises. Betting into him is expensive.
-
Rufus
the Tagalong
He calls his way into every hand and never raises before the flop. Charge him when you connect.
-
Mabel
the Late One
She pays off almost anything, like Dottie. But now and then she fires the river, and then it is not so clear.
On your phone or computer
With your thumb or the keyboard
On a phone, everything is one tap away. On a computer the table fills the screen, the hand is logged street by street alongside it, and you play from the keyboard: F to fold, C to check or call, R to bet or raise.
- FFold
- CCheck or call
- RRaise
No money
Practice without money isn't half practice
With no money at stake, you decide based on what you see at the table, not on the fear of losing. That's why the chips here only keep score: they can't be bought, cashed out or exchanged for anything.
Questions about the practice table
Can I play poker against the computer?
Yes, that's what this table is for. Pokeo plays your opponents, each with a style of its own, and you play whole hands on your phone or computer. There are no other people on the other side: it's a table for practice, not competition.
Does practicing cost anything?
Sitting down across from Walter and the first lessons of the course cost nothing and need no account. The other tables, the full game with several opponents and the whole course open with the pass.
Do I need to sign up?
No. You can sit down right now. If you want to save your progress and pick up on another device, we ask for your email and send you a code: no passwords.
Can I play against my friends?
Not on Pokeo: it's a table for practicing against Pokeo's own opponents, not a room for playing online with other people. For a game with friends, at home and without money, here's how to set one up.
Does Pokeo involve real money?
No. Pokeo teaches you to play and to decide: there's no real-money play, the chips can't be bought, and it links to no poker room. What you learn works at any table, starting with the one at home.

Walter is waiting
Two hundred chips each, blinds of one and two. Play as many hands as you like and, when you get up, he'll tell you what he saw.
